Create a new User in the iSeries

  1. Log into an iSeries (green screen) session (administrative clearance required)
  2. Go to WRKUSRPRF *ALL
    • Put a 3 beside an existing user ID with authorities similar to the user you want to create, and enter.
    • At 'User Profile', type the new user ID. We recommend using the person's initials
    • At 'User Password', type the new user's password
    • At 'Text Description', type the new user's full name
    • Press F9
    • Press F10
    • Page down once
    • At 'Special Authority', type *USRCLS and enter
    • Enter again to create the new user

Setup/modify User Security Table settings in PC JIMS

  1. Log in to PC JIMS (administrative clearance required)
  2. To add a new user 
    • Go to Technical/System Tables/Edit Security Table
    • At lower left yellow box, enter the new user ID and click Add
    • Right click on an existing user ID (with authorities similar to the user you want to create), and click Copy.
    • Right click on the new user ID (far right column), and left click Paste
    • Modify the new user ID authority settings as needed.
    • Click Save when done.
  3. To modify an existing user
    • Locate the user ID you wish to modify across the top row
    • Modify the user's settings as needed
    • Click Save when done.
Setup/modify User ID printer assignments in PC JIMS
  1. Log in to PC JIMS (administrative clearance required)
  2. Go to Technical/System Tables/Edit Printer Assignments
    • Scroll to the very bottom of the table. 
    • Click on the blank box at bottom of the Workstation column.
    • Type a Workstation or User ID, e.g. DSP10 or JDG, in that box, and press your Tab key
    • Select a specific printer for each print field, or copy all from an existing setting.
      1. To copy, right click in the box to the left of a User ID or Workstation ID that's been completed, and click Copy
      2. Then, right click in the blank box to the left of your new Workstation or User ID, and click Paste
      3. Click Save at bottom.

Setup/modify Users in Imaging

  1. Log in to PC JIMS Imaging (administrative clearance required)
  2. To add a new user
    • Go to Technical/Users
    • Go to File/Import JIMS Users
    • Locate the user ID in the far left column, check the Import box, and click Import
    • Click on an existing user ID (with authorities similar to the user you want to create), and note their User group
    • Click on the new user ID and change their User group accordingly, e.g. judges should be in the "Judge" User group
    • Click Save
  3. To modify an existing user
    • Go to Technical/Users
    • Click on the user ID and change their User group accordingly
    • To deactivate a user ID, uncheck the Active box near bottom center of screen
    • Click Save

Enable/Disable a User in the iSeries

  1. Log into an iSeries (green screen) session (administrative clearance required)
  2. Go to WRKUSRPRF *ALL
    • Put a 2 beside the existing user profile you want to change
    • At Status, change to *ENABLED or *DISABLED
    • Enter to Save.

DO NOT DELETE an iSeries User ID

  1. Done incorrectly, this can inadvertently delete key files associated with a user ID. Call Jeff or Kurt at Goodin Associates for help, 618-549-0286.


iSeries User ID Start Menus (more details)

Security in the iSeries is established at numerous levels. When it comes to users or User IDs, the iSeries regulates user authorities by requiring the assignment of a User Class, and by limiting user access to menu options through the assignment of initial (start) menus. Both settings are established when a User ID is first created, and can be modified as needed by admin staff. 

User Class options range from USER through security administrator (SECADM), and function much like Windows security groups. View-only User IDs are typically set to USER; data entry staff are set to SYSOPR; and admin staff are set to SECOFR.

Start menus provide users a structured needs-based subset of PC JIMS menu options. Menu options that users aren't authorized to use are inactivated. Secondary and tertiary menus are similarly controlled.
